Hiking in winter in Kathmandu Valley is one of the popular tourism activity among both domestic and international tourists. A one- day hiking is very much common in and around Kathmandu valley. Hiking is one of the fun-filled and adventure tourist activities that you can do in Kathmandu. However, hiking during winter provides a whole new thrill and atmosphere for the travelers.
Dry Hiking Trails and Crystal-clear skies
In winter, there is hardly any rainfall and the hiking trial becomes dry and clear most of the times. The weather will be warm during the sunny days and the sky gets as much clear as it can get. When the sky is clear, the hikers can get a crystal-clear view of the snow-capped mountains from the top. If this is not people hike for then tell me what is? The magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains are one of the major attraction or if I may say it as one of the major motivations for hiking.
Beside the beautiful views of the Himalayan ranges, there is
a whole bunch of thrills that you can only get during the winter hike in and
around Kathmandu Valley.
Snowfall
The snow- if there is any moderate to heavy rainfall during
the winter then the hills in and around the Kathmandu valley gets filled with
snow for a couple of days. These are one of the most interesting days for the
travelers. The hiking trails get pretty much crowded during this time when it
snows. Most of the locals head on to see and play snow during this season. Leave
aside hiking and the hikers, locals of the valley go for a ride on their bike
or car to the hill top destination as well.
Few Drawbacks
With all these fun and adventure, there are a few downsides
of hiking during the winter season. Before the hills get filled with snow, there
is going to be a moderate to heavy rainfall maybe a day before or two days
back. It can also rain for a couple of days as well. So, with the rainfall the hiking
trails get muddy at most parts. Well, the hikers might not find it as difficult
and annoying as for the riders. Most of them who rides to this destination gets
stuck in the mud.
Crowd
Moving on, the hiking trails and the roads to ride to the
top gets pretty much crowded during this time of the season which can be both fun
and annoying depending upon the hikers and travelers. If you are a social
person then you can make a lot of new friends during the hike or it might not
be fun for you if you prefer to hike or ride in peace.
Short Days
Another thing that falls to the downside of hiking during the winter is that it gets dark soon. The days are short, so you might want to start the hike in early morning than usual if it is a longer hike so that you can travel back before it is dark.
These are some of the few drawbacks of hiking during the
winter. However, the magnificent views of the snow-capped mountain ranges including
the Kathmandu valley from the hill top is totally worth it. On top of that, the
beautiful scene of sunrise and sunset with a crystal-clear sky is a treat for hikers.
