China has already opened its doors for air travel from Nepal. The borders of China which has been closed for a while now has opened its door for passengers who are traveling by air. Henceforth, the schedule passengers flight has already started from Kathmandu to China.
Which airlines operates flights from Kathmandu to China?
Himalaya airlines and Air China are
the only two airlines which operates schedule passenger flights from Nepal to
China as of now. Himalaya airlines has been operating schedule passenger
flights for a couple of months now while Air China has also been operating its
services of passenger schedule flights from Nepal to China and back regularly.
Beijing and Kunming flights from Kathmandu
Air China, the national flag
carrier operates flight from Kathmandu to Beijing while Himalaya airlines
operates flights from Kathmandu to Kunming which is scheduled for every Tuesday
as of now.
While the borders are open,
however there are still few covid-19 protocols that are to be followed by the
passengers traveling by air from Nepal to China.
How long should passengers stay in a hotel quarantine?
Passengers traveling from Kathmandu
to China should stay from 2-3 days hotel quarantine in Nepal and likely to stay
in quarantine for 10 days in China.
When the schedule flights first
started, all the passengers traveling to China should mandatorily stay in a 4
days hotel quarantine and undergo a couple of PCR tests as required in Nepal
before heading on to the airport/ boarding the aircraft. Not to mention, the
PCR test results must be negative to board the flight.
However, things have changed in
between and till now. After just over a month of schedule flight operation, the
quarantine protocol was removed by the Chinese Government for passengers
traveling to Beijing and Kunming from Nepal.
Moving on, the Chinese protocols regarding
the covid-19 for passengers traveling from Nepal to China has been changed
again. As of now, passengers who are traveling from Kathmandu to China should
stay in a 2 days hotel quarantine and undergo a couple of PCR tests before
boarding into the flight. One of the major reasons behind this could be the
increase in covid-19 cases in Nepal. Along with this, passengers who tested
negative here were tested positive in China.

Previously, China only allowed
cargo flights from Nepal where Himalaya airlines used to operate cargo flights
to Kunming and Nanning regularly. The passenger flights have started recently
and many who were in Nepal have already left for China.
On the other hand, the inflow of tourists has increased rapidly in the last couple of months. However, there were less tourist arrival from China unlike the times before Covid-19. But now, we can expect the rise in the number of Chinese tourists in Nepal with the resumption of passenger schedule flights to China and Nepal.
