Pokhara International Airport is bringing the first aerobridge in Nepal. The recently released videos on the internet shows the aerobridge being made at the new international airport in the west. As of now, the only international airport fo Nepal TIA, does not have any aerobridge for boarding the passengers.
Aero bridge or passenger boarding bridge or even a jet bridge is a movable bridge that extends from a boarding gate/ airport terminal to the aircraft. This suspended bridge is used to board passengers from boarding gate to the aircraft without using any carriers. It can be used for both the departure and arrival of the passengers either from terminal gate to aircraft or vice versa respectively.
No aerobridge at TIA
Tribhuwan International Airport doesn't have any aerobridge. The Passengers in TIA are transported by using an airport bus both to and from aircraft. Beyond the departure terminal to the airside is a very sensitive area. Passengers are not allowed to walk freely at the ramp area. Even the airport staffs, operators and also the authorities should wear a ramp jacket while heading on to the ramp area or airside.
How are passengers boarded at Tribhuwan International Airport?
Airlines use airport bus for boarding the passengers to aircraft at Tribhuwan International Airport which consumes extra time and also might cause slight delays at times as well due to limited number of shuttle buses. There is a total of five boarding gates at the airport and 3-4 shuttle buses to transport the passengers to board the passengers. Each flight boarding takes at lest 2-3 shuttle buses to board all the passengers and if there is arrival at the same time then it can take time to get a free bus as well So it can cause delays in peak hours.
Moving on, we can expect a slight ease in the boarding at the new airport in the west. As it seems, Pokhara International Airport is set to bring the aerobridge in operation. This suspended jet bridge will save a lot of time for both arrival and departure of passengers. No doubt, it is one of the most convenient ways of boarding the passengers. However, we can still expect the operation of shuttle bsuses for boarding the passengers as well. The full details and official news regarding the aerobridge is yet to come.
