As mentioned in the previous article, Gautam Buddha International Airport has successfully tested its calibration flight. Now with the successful test flight, the concerned authorities are targeting to operate the Gautam Buddha International Airport as per the previously marked date.
The concerned authorities are planning to open the doors to the commercial flights at Gautam Buddha International Airport from 16 May, which is also the birthday of Lord Buddha. So we can expect the start of commercial flights within a couple of months from now.
However, this newly built airport at Bhairahawa might start with domestic flights at the beginning. The international flights may only start after a while. One of the reason being COVID-19 effect as the aviation industry is still in recovery phase.
Having said that, many international airlines are said to have shown interest to operate international flights to and from Nepal. So if everything goes well and demand generates then Gautam Buddha International Airport is the next better option to fulfil the demands. On top of that, being the only international airport, Tribhuwan International Airport has always been crowded, so it might not take long before airlines to find Gautam Buddha International Airport as their second station.
Moving on to the domestic flights,
Buddha Air has recently started flights to Janakapur from Pokhara. This is the first time that there will be a direct flights between these two districts. Passengers can now use direct flights from Pokhara to travel to Janakpur. Buddha air will be operating three flights between these two destinations (Monday, Thursday and Saturday).
Along with that, the air fare for domestic flights has been slightly increased, reason being the increase in fuel price as it seems. So be updated with the new ticket price with the concerned airlines before you book one.
On the other hand, it is mandatory for passengers have to show their airline ticket either in digital format or in printed form during check-in.
