Updated notice regarding visa on-arrival for foreigners in Nepal

 


Department of Immigration, Nepal has updated the protocols and requirements to obtain visa on arrival for foreigners who arrive for Nepal tour in the coming days. As per the notice updated on 21st of January, the immigration department has made few changes regarding the on arrival visa and to obtain visa from Nepali Mission Abroad. 

Highlights

Fully vaccinated tourists who can provide all the required documents and comply with immigration rules can get on arrival visa at the immigration entry point to Nepal

Foreigners except fully vaccinated should apply for the visa to Nepal from Nepali Mission Abroad (mandatory).

Visitors should go through antigen test after they arrive in Nepal and if tested positive then five days hotel quarantine is mandatory

Expenses regarding the covid-19 are to be borne by foreigners themselves

Who can get visa on arrival in Nepal and what are the required documents?

  • Foreigners who have taken full vaccination against COVID-19 and eligible with the prevailing immigration rules of Nepal are eligible to apply for on arrival visa at the immigration entry point of Nepal. However, the visitors have to provide the following documents along with those required to obtain visa:
  • Certificate or evidence that shows the completion of 14 days of complete vaccination against COVID-19
  • As mentioned in the previous notice, negative report of COVID-19 obtained within 72 hours of departure from the first port of embarkation
  • Visitors heading for mountaineering or trekking should provide a copy of the permits if needed
  • Proof of hotel reservation in Nepal
  • International Traveler Online Arrival (ITOA) form (must have) which can be obtained after online registration in the CCMC website - just a copy of the form would be fine

Foreigners who are not fully vaccinated are not eligible for the visa on arrival at the entry point in Nepal.

How to obtain visa from Nepali Mission Abroad?

  • Foreigners who have taken complete vaccination against COVID-19 shall submit the following documents while applying for the Nepali Missions abroad:
  • Proof for the completion of 14 days of vaccination
  • Hotel reservation proof
  • mountaineering or trekking permits (just a copy would be fine), if any

After applying for visa from Nepali Mission Abroad, visitors should provide all the necessary documents plus COVID-19 negative report obtained within 72 hours  of the departure from the first port of embarkation at the immigration entry point of Nepal (which is mandatory).

Foreigners without complete vaccination against COVID-19

Foreigners without complete vaccination or within 14 days of vaccination or even without vaccination can obtain their visa to Nepal from Nepali Mission Abroad as they are not eligible for the on arrival visa as per the helath and safety guidelines. They will have to go through antigen test at the entry point and if tested positive then visitors have to stay in a 5 days mandatory hotel quarantine. 

Foreigners with complete vaccination will also go through antigen test within 24 hrs of hotel check-in (if not done at the entry point). They are allowed to carry on or move out only if they are tested negative, however, the antigen test should be done every 72 hrs as mentioned in the notice. 

All the expenses regarding covid test, isolation should be borne by the visitors themselves.
