Increase in COVID-19 cases and smart lockdown in Kathmandu

Nepal has seen a whopping surge in the COVID-19 cases in the last few days. Crossing, 5000, 8000 and now 10000 mark of daily new cases in the last three days as of writing. Few weeks back, only a couple hundreds of new cases were registered per day but there has been a sudden increament in the covid cases.

As a result, smart lockdown is set to be imposed in Nepal which makes cinema halls, gyms to shut down temporarily for the time being once again. As per the new safety guidelines, fully vaccinated certificate (original/photocopy/soft copy) is mandatory to enter almost all public areas to get the required services.

However, restaurants, hotels and travel agencies are still in operation but they will have to strictly follow the new health and safety guidelines to provide the services. So tourists can still get the accomodations as required for now if you are in Nepal. For those of you, who are planning to visit Nepal, you can get more information through your travel agents.

Meanwhile, schools are closed but offices that provide different services are still open. Jatras and festivals that attracts lots of visitors might be halted for now as no more than 25 people are allowed to be in group.

Airports in Nepal are open and are smoothly operating the domestic and international flights by following health and safety guidelines. Public transportation is in operation as well but the vehicles should only carry limited number of passengers at a time.

Looking at the current scenario, Nepal may not go into total lockdown like before but if the cases keeps on increasing like this then there might be a chance. However, we need to be mkre aware this time.

If you are planning to visit Nepal on late January or early February then get regular updates about the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Also, contact with your travel agents in Nepal and don't forget about your travel insurance.
