Nepal Tourism Board has come up with a slight change in the entry protocols to Nepal as updated on 4 January 2022. As of now, Nepal is open for tourists for all sorts of tourism activities throughout the nation.
What is new?
- Tourists from ( including with transit or travel history within the past three weeks) from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Malawi and Hong Kong are restricted to enter Nepal due to the growing risk of Omicron from these countries.
- Like the previous notice, the fully vaccinated tourists are not required to stay on Quarantine upon arrival. However, the travellers may undergo Rapid Antigen Test at Air and land entry points as they arrive.
Beside these, everything else is almost similar to the previous entry protocol to Nepal.
Essential documents for your travel
- Vaccination certificate
- Hotel booking
- Mountaineering trekking and other permits ( if applicable or required)
- A recommendation letter from your travel agent, trekking and tour agent in Nepal is a mandatory if you are not fully vaccinated
- Negative COVID-19 report (72 hrs)
- COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) form)
Other than that here are few other important things that you should know before you travel to Nepal
As the updated notice mentions, if you are traveling with a baby or a child,
- Vaccination and negative PCR report is not required for children below 5 years
- Children (5- 18) years, a PCR negative report is required for traveling.
If at any circumstance that you develop COVID-19 symptoms during your trip in Nepal, what should you do?
The very first thing that you should do is self isolate yourself and get yourself tested, avail medical treatment. The updated notice mentions that all rescue and treatment has to be born by the visitors themselves, so make sure your travel insurance covers COVID-19 treatment as well.

Nepal is open for fully vaccinated and non vaccinated or partially vaccinated tourists, however, the entry protocols are slightly different for vaccinated and non vaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers. It would easiers for the visitors to enter and travel Nepal of they are fully vaccinated. The bonus for the fully vaccinated travelers is that they can get visa on arrival at the entry pont to Nepal.
