So the second wave of the corona virus has hit hard in Nepal as well with the all time high reaching up to 7000+ daily new cases of the covid-19 virus in Nepal. While most of the districts are already under prohibitory order, many are likely to join as well looking at the situation right now. Everything is pretty much suspended right now except for the emergency services and essential items.
Apart from that, domestic airlines are already suspended and the international flights are to take a pause from 23 Baisakh. Most of the entry points at the border area are asked to be sealed as well. So we can assume how serious the situation has been in the nation. Hospitals and quarantine facilities are nearly full in the high risk zones throughout the country. So everything is pretty much shut down as of now in different parts of Nepal.
Moving on, the tourism industry of the nation which just started to see the light in the industry after a year long standstill is yet again forced to take a pause and no one knows when it will restart again. The tourism industry is yet again fallen down to the ground due to the second wave of corona virus and no one can help it due to the current situation.
Now with traveling to Nepal completely suspended- if not done already then it will be very soon, we can move our focus to virtual tourism. There is no doubt that people will start traveling soon after all of this is over but with virtual tourism on hand we can still keep tourism alive and engaging with the tourists.
21st century has already been a world of technology anyway, everything is tech-graded and everyone is all about technology. So why not use this tech at a full force at this time. Who knows, we might make this dreadful situation a little fruitful at this very moment for the tourism industry.
There are so many tourist destinations in Nepal along with several adventures and stuffs. From the thrill to the chill, Nepal is filled with everything for the tourists. So it does not have to be all but we can definitely compile a few parts and turn it into a virtual tourism.
The mountains:
The high peak mountains are the identity of Nepal and to explore these mountains there are some wild mountain trails and off the beaten tracks. There is no doubt that the information about the trail and the stories behind it ( if any) would be really interesting.
Temples:
There are several temples all around Nepal and almost every temples and historical building have their own history, legends and stories. These stories would can definitely find a way to attract tourists to this destinations.
Jatras and Festivals:
The Bikram Sambat (BS) – Nepali calendar is filled with jatras and festivals. The jatras and festivals are the culture of Nepalese which have come from a long way and till this date they celebrate each and every festival with full of hearts. A little bit of this through virtual tourism can be more of an intersting information for the tourists.
Apart from this, Nepal can also promote other tourist destination and stuffs through virtual tourism. The concerned authority should make the most of it at the current situation. The tourism board did released a couple of videos regarding virtual tourism but they should do more. This can help make tourism still engaging amongst the tourist from different parts of the world and make them aware and ready for their next trip to Mepal.
