The second biggest festival of Nepal has started with the start of Kag Tihar'- a day to worship the crows. The festival of Tihar which last for five days is a time of celebration. Tihar is one of the most anticipated festivals of Nepal as it is the time Laxmi Puja , Bhaitika and most importantly the tike when the whole nation is covered with beautiful and colorful lights.
The festivals in Nepal has created quite an impression among the tourists for a while now. While many wants to witness the festival live, some are even seen being the part of celebration. This is the actual beauty of this festival- the mood of celebration and happiness.
However, the festival of lights might hardly see any tourists this time due to Covid-19 concerns. As of now, Nepal is partially op ned for tourism and that too only for trekking activities which is why we might hardly see tourists this time. It has been about a month since trekking has been opened with strict protocols and precautions and we have already seen few hundreds of tourists arrival in Nepal but not as many as it used to be.
While the foreigners might miss the Tihar this times but the downside is that many Nepalese might also see the limited celebrations throughout the nation due to the Covid-19 concerns. The 'Deusi Bhailo' programme which is one of the major part of this celebration might not be conducted this time due to the current covid-19 situation or we might only see a few of them this time.
On the other hand, the pandemic has cut off many jatras, festival and celebrations this time and we can see minimal preparations for Tihar already as compared to past years. However, the lights does not seem to fade this time as well. While the celebrations might be limited but the capital is already sparkling with decorative lights and traditional diyos and we could only hope for more in the next three days.
People are alr ady decorating their houses with the lights and many are already seen buying the colors to make rangoli and mandalas which is another best part of this festival. Whole the fire crackers and Deusi Bhailo might not be seen this Tihar, but we can definitely celebrate with our families at our homes. So looking at the current situation and the way people are preparing, it is pretty much sure that the lights will not fade this time as well and the whole nation will light up despite the pandemic.
Tihar has been one of the eye catching festivals of Nepal among the tourists. We have already seen their interest in this festival for a while now but this time foreigners who love to visit Nepal for these kind of festivals and celebrations will miss Tihar.
Furthermore, the concerned authorities has been providing latest updates regarding the mountain activities and trekking in Nepal. Government might also come up with other tourism activities soon after Tihar as they have mentioned somewhere in the mid November.
