What can 100 dollars get you in Kathmandu (for 24 hours)?

If you are traveling to Nepal, 100 dollars can give you a very entertaining 24 hours in the capital, Kathmandu. I can not promise about how cheap or expensive Kathmandu is but $100 or maybe quite less than that will be good enough to spend a quality time in the capital for a day.

$1 (US) equals to 117 rupees or so which means you will be getting around 11000 NPR in return to US$100. However, the exchange rates are updated regularly but there will not be a huge difference. Now 11000 NPR is a lot in Nepal to spend within a day but with food and accommodation it can be reasonable price for you as a tourist in the capital.

Midrange hotels in Kathmandu

First of the hotels, you can get a mid range hotels within $15- $30 for a day but I would suggest you to check into a homestay service which might be a lot cheaper and comfortable, on the positive note, homestays usually provide a homely environment and you might come to witness the way of living of Nepali people. Homestay services are getting more and more popular among the tourists. You might also get breakfast and dinner with the same price for a single day in homestay services and also get a chance to taste local foods of Nepal.

A local guide in Kathmandu

You can get a local guide in Kathmandu in between $10- $13 for a day. There are many licensed local guides working solo or you could also hire someone working from the travel agents to guide you throughout your day.

Transportation in Kathmandu

The capital has so many places to travel to, so if you choose to travel in a particular destination then you can hire a taxi which might take in between $10- $20 dollars and you are good enough for the transportation service for a day. You can also use other public transportation like buses and vans within a dollar to rich at your destination but the public vehicles are too much crowded, so you might want to ignore them. I would rather suggest you to walk on to your destination if it is not far enough, nothing js more fun than that.

Restaurants and foods in Kathmandu.

Now moving on to the restaurants and foods, the capital is filled with restaurants and cafes. You can pick up any one of them but the more local you go, cheaper the prices will be. So you might want to head out from the tourist zones like Thamel ( where the prices are eventually set for tourists) and head on to nearby places. Now small cafes and foods are very much common and popular in capital. You can get different food items like momos and chowmein within a dollar or two if you add a cold drink to it but even with the top class restaurant you will only need between $10 - $20 (or even less) to try a wide range of delicacies and drinks.

Entry fees at tourist sites in Kathmandu

Moving on to tourist sites, they are many local tourist destinations in the capital which are free to travel for tourists as well but some heritage sites and parks might charge the entry fees in between $1 -$3. So roaming around capital is even for fun as the small alleys with different art and architectures around is a fun on its own.

So here it is,

For a day:

a mid range place to stay at = $30

a local guide =$13

taxi service= $15

Restaurants and foods =$20

Entry fees for tourist sites=$3

This is all you need for a day.

Note: The above mentioned prices are roughly calculated.

These are the mid range services that you could get within 100 dollars for a day (24hrs). The prices could get on a lot cheaper or expensive depending on the service you choose and how you plan to spend your day on the capital or you can still make it to next day within $100. However, you can also choose different packages from your travel agent if you need a guided service throughout your journey in Nepal.
