There are so much dust in the air that you might need to wear a mask and gloves to walk through at some point. Sometimes, many of the views and scenes of the mountains could be blocked by the dusty air in the capital. While many of the places are still dusty and polluted at some part, there has been a massive improvement than before as Government is constantly working to sort out this problem. There are several small lanes in the inner part of the capital which might be clean but the main roads inside the Kathmandu valley might be filled with dust but that would not be a bummer for your trip to Kathmandu, plus most of the tourist destinations are usually clean, beautiful and peaceful. However, just bring a mask and a sunglasses with you when you travel to Nepal, then you are good to go.
Expect the noise of the horns in Kathmandu.
The capital is quite busy compared to other cities of Nepal and on top of that there are several small lanes inside the inner part of the capital which makes the roads quite crowded at most the times. You might stop at several local shops inside the capital, so you will be hearing a lot of honking sounds from the motor bikes and vehicles. While different places inside the capital has banned to honk the vehicles, there are several small lanes where you will run through one way or another and there you might hear those sounds. Trust me , you will be hearing a lot if those sounds at the capital during your trip and if you are not used to those sounds, you might want you prepare yourself first.
The adventurous public transportation in Kathmandu.
While the cabs and other taxi services and tourist vehicles are the best transportation in Kathmandu, the public transportation like buses and vans are a blunder. These public buses and vans are crowded most of the times and not just a normal crowd like super adventurous crowd. Trust me, you might not have a great experience traveling through public vehicles most of the times but if you are adventurous enough then you can try. However, I would rather suggest you to walk for a short distance travel which is more fun than using a transportation service as you will come through several interesting things in Kathmandu.

Other than temples, the other thing that you will constantly run through in Kathmandu is the local cafes and tea shops which you will definitely find at every corner as the capital is filled with these shops. The next thing is MOMO which is more like a national lunch of this place. As much as you find the local cafes and shops, you will equally find momos here in the capital and this food is one that you must try while in Kathmandu. Lastly the alleys and short lanes at the inner parts of the capital which are the most fun and interesting places to be in the capital. With every alleys inside the capital, there is a certain local community living there and most of them are the Newars of the valley.
