Commercial flights not likely to start anytime soon in Nepal as suspension extends.

The suspension of air travel for commercial flights both domestic and international airlines has been further extended to August 31 as decided by the cabinet meeting held on Monday.  On July 20, the decision to resume both domestic and international commercial flights from August 17 was taken by the Government of Nepal but now the  suspension is further extended as the nation goes to panic mode again due to the rise of positive cases of corona virus.

Nepal Government decided to resume the air travel for commercial flights for the first time since lockdown on July 20.  As per the decision, the flights would only operate to safe destinations and during the initial phase, flights would only operate to SAARC countries. As the visa on arrival is suspended in Nepal, foreigners traveling to Nepal should consult to Nepal Embassy for vis information and process.

The decision to resume the commercial flights definitely provoked  travel agents and hotels of Nepal. They were all getting ready for restart of tourism in Nepal with the resumption of the flights but now it seems they need to wait a little more to get back in the game. The rise in the cases of the coronavirus  forced Government to extend the suspension. Along with the decision to extend the suspension, the cabinet meeting also decided to suspend the public transportation as well.

However, Nepal is not under lockdown this time. Only a few areas having high risks are locked. Government has made tight security in the border areas and the movement of the people and vehicle s from one region to another is also made tighter.

Well, looking at the present condition, it seems the air travel is not likely to resume anytime soon as the cases of the corona virus is rising day by day in the nation. Only a few places in Nepal has zero cases if corona virus. Even the capital, Kathmandu has suffered this time with thousand plus cases of the virus. Government is taking all the necessary actions and precautions this time.
