Finally, the decision has been made to resume the commercial international flights from September 1. Well, the news sounds like you have heard before. Earlier, government decided to resume flights from the start of September but they were forced to suspend and withdraw the decision due to the sudden rise in Covid-19 cases. Now the same date has been made final to resume the regular flights in Nepal.
Ministry of Civil Aviation is all ready with new guideline for the resumption of flights. According to them, the resumption of the regular flights all at once would not be possible as of the situation right now. Nepal will only receive flights from the countries with less Covid-19 cases with low risks. Only chartered flights will be used to bring Nepalese from the countries with high risks.
It has also been said that the flights are most likely to be operated only to the countries where PCR test is easily performed. Passengers traveling to Nepal has to provide a PCR test report (which is a must) 72 hour prior to boarding the flight. The PCR test is likely to be performed when they land in Kathmandu as well. Airlines and the passengers have to follow all the safety and health protocols throughout their travel.
The Passengers who travel to Nepal from these flights have to stay in a hotel quarantine for 7 days as per the rule of the Government. The expenses throughout their stay in hotel are to be borne by passengers themselves. These expenses are likely to be included in the airfare which later are provided to the concerned authority by the airlines.
Furthermore, the resumption of daily regular flights will not be effective for Kuwait, Saudi and Qatar. The regular flights will not be resumed to the high risk countries with Covid-19 cases but they will not be ignored as chartered flights will be operated to these countries.
