Nyatapola renovation completed with an assist from locals



The famous Nyatapola temple of Bhaktapur has been renovated with an assist from  Bhaktapurians. The temple was partially damaged by the massive earthquake of 2015 in Nepal. The renovation work was halted in the midway due to the spread of coronavirus. The renovation was left as it is  since government first imposed a nationwide lockdown in March 24. Later, the renovation of the temple restarted in April 18 amidst lockdown. It was very important to restart  the renovation as the monsoon rain might damage the completed work. 

Since the restart of the renovation work of the temple, thousands of locals from Baktapur had volunteered to work in the program. Bhaktapur Municipality  who is leading the renovation and reconstruction of heritage and cultural sites received both labor support as well as financial support from the locals. With the support and assist from the locals, the reconstruction of the Nyatapola temple was completed within half of the budget estimated by the government. The locals volunteered in the renovation work turn wise. They had also maintained social distance, put on gloves and masks the whole time. Recently, a couple of videos and pictures were surfaced around social media where the locals were seen enjoying the work together which shows the perfect example of the unity of Bhaktapurians.

Earlier, Bhaktapur Municipality had also completed Chyamasingha gate and Lokeshwor temple with a few number of local participation. The municipality is also working on the renovation and reconstruction of different cultural and historical monuments and heritage properties.

The Nyatapola temple is one of the pride of Bhaktapur and also a tourist site. This five storeyed temple which was built in 1702 is considered as one of the tallest pagodas in Nepal.Nyatapola is one of the famous tourist attraction sites of Bhaktapur. The Nyatapola temple area is always flooded with tourist. The temple alone attracts thousands of tourist each year.
